Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Claims First Trophy in Nearly 30 Months

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid period, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive win over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court from that period of that year.

Success also means Medvedev has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters together, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his last six finals, including in Halle earlier this year.

His retrieving strategy and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted commentators to question if his skill to perform at the highest level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to come to the net and play aggressively, backed up by an improved serve.

He recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the final five games to take the lead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour victory, took control to force a final set.

Moutet defended 4 early-game opportunities in a tight third set before the Russian won the break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the title with a point at the net area, with his opponent failing to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
